Causes of snoring in children

Occasional snoring may be normal for children. Recent studies have shown that 3 to 12 per cent of children between the ages of 1 and 9 snore. But frequency is not normal. Habitual snoring can be a cause of a more serious medical condition called obstructive (bears) sleep apnea or simply sleep apnea syndrome.

Sleep apnea is a condition characterized by strong snoring with periods of interruption of respiration. Breaks may be short or long, usually between 5 to 30 seconds. During this period, the child could not obtain straight sleep. Rouses and moves to another position to sleep, sleep then resumes. Eventually he will start once more snore. This activity is often several times during the night, every night. Although this time rare condition appears in children, it is very important that parents should be aware of symptoms that go along with it.

The symptoms of sleep apnea include

• Speech poor habits - speaking sounds like words on a hot potato snack.

• Reduction in the rate of growth. Children suffering from sleep apnea use more energy in breathing during the night. During meals, tend to eat slowly, because it is difficult for them to breathe and chewing at the same time. The result is that they have enough nutrients to support its growth.

• Hyperactivity. Lack of sleep can cause drowsiness in children during the day. To stay awake, children working frantically.

• Poor performance in school. Given that children do not get the right sleep during the night, tend to appear tired and lack of concentration to focus on school, therefore, have poor performance.

When these symptoms are visible, it is imperative to fathers to take his son to a pediatrician and have it examined. A child may be happy and smiling when he brought the doctor and is therefore difficult to diagnose if you actually have sleep apnea. Parents are advised record that snoring his son so that the doctor can analyse the situation in reality.

Meanwhile, the sleep apnea is not the only reason why children snore. Other reasons include allergy attack, obesity, asthma and the expansion of the adenoids and tonsils caused by cold or tonsillitis.

Some allergy attacks can cause swelling of the linings of the nose which can lead to the expansion of the adenoids. This prevents that children breathe normally. This causes the child to snoring. After the allergy attack, snoring stops.

Obesity can also lead to snoring. In fact, 20% and 40% of obese children snore. This is because fats can form around the throat may cause constriction and makes the Airways Limited. Also, the fats in the stomach can cause the diaphragm to operate irregular that asthma is said to be another cause, why children snore. One study found that 40% of children diagnosed with asthma snore.

Enlargement of the adenoids and tonsils caused by cold or tonsillitis also results to snoring. While the cold or tonsillitis can be cured by decongestant and antibiotics, adenoid extension is treated by a surgical procedure to remove the adenoids and tonsils.

Underdevelopment of the jaw in the uterus can cause snoring as well. There is also the possibility that the nerves and muscles cannot control properly airway and cause children to snore.
